Wall Street’s view of Big Tech may be far more bearish than many investors realize.

Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and Oracle are growing revenue at an average rate of about 21% — yet they trade at an average forward P/E of roughly 20.7x.

Meanwhile, slower-growing Costco and Walmart are trading at significantly higher multiples.

Why the disconnect?

Investors are increasingly focused on massive AI capital spending, weakening free cash flow and whether hyperscalers will eventually need to rein in spending to satisfy shareholders.

The AI story isn’t disappearing. But the market is clearly demanding something new: proof that enormous AI investments can translate into equally enormous returns.
