GrowthCon diary #5
I’m thinking about starting a list.
Not of who’s coming. I know that one by heart.
A list of the reasons people give me for not coming.
“Robert, it’s too expensive.”
“Robert, next year, I promise.”
“Robert, no time, I’m in the middle of a project.”
“Robert, I have to leave town, it’s my father-in-law’s birthday.”
“Robert, I’ve been to conferences. Same slides, same stories.”
I heard that last one last year. And 3 years ago. From the same person. Ola, you know who you are.
Honestly? I get every single one. I was the marketer behind the brand who didn’t have time. Looking back, the years I “didn’t have time” were exactly the years I grew the least.
As for the slides, you’re right. If you’re only coming for the slides, stay home. They’ll all be on LinkedIn within two weeks. What you won’t find on LinkedIn is the person next to you at the coffee break.
Same problem as you, already solved it, never posted about it anywhere. Or the speaker you catch between sessions and ask about the thing that’s actually hurting you, not what’s on their slide.
That’s why we capped the workshops at 20 to 30 people. So you’re not just a seat in the room. So you can ask the questions that keep you up at night, or the ones you wake up with.
6 days to go.
Got a reason not to come? Send it to me. Maybe it makes the list. Or maybe I change your mind.
P.S. To the “next year, I promise” person: this year is that year.
