How much do you need to earn to take home a certain amount each month?
That’s what this table shows.
A few examples:
* £2,000 a month take-home needs a salary of roughly £28,400
* £3,000 a month take-home needs about £45,100
* £5,000 a month take-home needs about £85,200
It’s a useful reminder that your gross salary and what actually lands in your bank account can be very different.
Important assumptions:
These figures are only a guide and assume:
* you are employed
* paid through PAYE
* this is employment income, not income from investments
* you are on a standard tax code
* you pay standard employee National Insurance
* you are not making pension contributions
* you are not repaying a student loan
* you are not using salary sacrifice
* you are not receiving benefits in kind or other deductions
They are also based on England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

If you live in Scotland, your take-home pay will differ because income tax bands are different.
Also if you are self-employed, have investment income, make pension contributions, repay a student loan or have other adjustments, your actual take-home pay may be different.
Save this so you can come back to it later.
