🧑💻 Getting hired as a developer in today’s market… what do you have to do?
I saw a post about: “zero Junior Android Developer job ads” for the past few months in the UK 😬 and I noticed this in Romania too.
When I was hiring developers, a couple of years ago, the challenging part for a candidate was to show their technical skills (and soft skills for some roles).
Now, the big challenge I see is: getting noticed 🙋 especially as a junior / beginner dev.
There’s this classic advice to “build projects” and “keep trying”, but usually it doesn’t come from the people who are actually hiring, or who recently got a job 😅
On the other hand, the few existing job openings still ask for the classic “5+ years of experience”. Btw, I was never a fan of these year-based requirements.
I still think it’s good advice, putting yourself and your work out there, going to meetups and events, I’m just not sure if it’s enough, or what are some other strategies.
What do you think? 💬 Comment below
... and if you’re hiring or you got a new job recently, care to share how you picked among candidates / what worked for you?

🧑💻 Developers always have a list of apps they’d love to build... but there’s never enough time for all of them (until now 👀).
I’ve been seeing this at myself too:
- starting a side project
- working for 1 or 2 months on it
- realizing I only have a login screen and a dashboard after all this time, because there’s only so much free time for such a side project.
So, when ChatGPT appeared, I started to use it more and more to speed up some of my coding, without compromising on quality.
This meant copy-pasting code from it to Xcode or Android Studio back then, but now everything is so much better 🚀 Two things impress me day after day:
1. How good ChatGPT is at brainstorming, analyzing and understanding everything: product development, technical requirements, marketing, anything.
2. How @chatgpt can work directly on your project, with access to files, configurations and even to the mobile simulators 📲 to run and test the app itself.
I’m still making the decisions, reviewing the code and testing everything, but @openai with these tools made the gap between “I’d love to build (and finish!) this app someday” and actually having something working feels much smaller now.
If you didn’t already, try them both, they’re in the same app now, Codex is also available in the CLI, and everything works so well! The link is in my bio 🔗
Any questions about my workflow, ChatGPT usage, Codex tips and tricks? Comment below and I’ll get back to every single one of you 💬

🧑💻 If you’d start your own mobile app tomorrow, what technology would you pick? (+ what I’d pick after 11 years of app development)
I’ve been building mobile apps since 2015, and here’s how my answer changed over the years:
1. Native iOS
That’s what I started with, what I knew best. However, it made sense, because despite having fewer users than Android, iOS users were more willing to pay 💰 for premium features.
So, for a personal app aiming to bring some side income, iOS was the easy pick.
2. Flutter
I learned native Android after iOS, and I loved it, but building 2 separate apps would’ve taken almost 2x the work 🧑💻 so the natural upgrade was either Flutter or React Native.
After countless comparison videos and articles, I decided to learn Flutter. It was well documented, had better UI performance, and Dart + the Flutter APIs were more similar to Swift/Kotlin (native iOS/Android) than React Native.
3. Kotlin / Compose Multiplatform
This was the best route for native developers, especially Android devs 📲 Same language, environment, plus the possibility to build iOS UI in SwiftUI, for that native iOS experience. Not 100% code reusability, but still better than with separate apps.
In 2025, Compose Multiplatform became stable for iOS too, so we had the best of both worlds: shared logic, shared UI, and easy access to native features whenever needed. However, the iOS UI wasn’t exactly native anymore.
Now - Native apps again?!
Now I’m contemplating if it’s worth it again to make 2 separate native apps, since AI speeds up development so much 🤔
This removes the dependencies headaches and the interoperability problems, but we’re left again with 2 apps to build and maintain. This costs at least 2x the tokens + keeping them in sync all the time.
What do you think? What would you pick (or have you picked if you started already)?

Not a very productive day 😅🧑💻
But I can’t just blame #taylorswift , my motivation was quite low these days.
I have 2 questions for you:
1. What music do you prefer when working?
2. How do you get your motivation back up?
