Just updated my “in case of death” box for 2026.

I do it once a year to make it easy for my family and friends to handle life as best as they can without me.

It is not a fun topic or a fun activity, but it is necessary to make sure that my loved ones can handle things properly when I pass away.

This is a part of my estate planning.

I discuss estate planning thoroughly in the last chapter of my book “So This Is Why I’m Broke” because I feel it is a big piece of financial wellness that is often an after thought.

I not only estate plan for myself, as the eldest daughter you know I also have to make sure my parents have their ish together as well.

And truly it’s even harder to do it with them than my self.

You don’t have to tackle this entire list yourself ! Make a promise to yourself to do 1-3 items on the list this week.

Then you can continue to work through the list depending on what is relevant to you and your needs.

Here’s what most people don’t think about: the majority of widows and widowers remarry. And if they die without updating their plan, everything goes to the new spouse. Not the kids. The new spouse. And when the new spouse dies the kids receive nothing.

It’s not always intentional. Life moves on. People fall in love again. Remember the Cinderella story? This happens in real life every single day.

The good news: a trust designed the right way locks in who gets what before any of that happens. You decide now. No one can change it after you’re gone.

Comment “YES” and I’ll send you my Sorry I’m Dead, Now What?™ Kit so your family knows where everything is and what to do when something happens to you. ❤️

A will alone isn’t enough. Your kids could still face frozen accounts, missing assets, locked phones, and costly delays.

Your family should be grieving you, not searching for everything you left behind.

Don’t leave them guessing. ❤️

#1 is why I’d never let my savings sit around earning pennies. Comment “HYSA” and I’ll send you the bank I love + details on the up to $400 welcome bonus 👇

#7 is why I created the Sorry I’m Dead, Now What?™ Kit. Comment “YES” and I’ll send you access.

Here’s what you need to know:

1️⃣ High-yield savings accounts can pay WAY more interest than traditional savings accounts. Don’t leave free money on the table.

2️⃣ POD beneficiaries override your will. Your account generally goes directly to whoever you named, regardless of what your will says.

3️⃣ Your bank accounts could be frozen when you die. Accounts in your name alone may be inaccessible until someone gets legal authority. A properly funded living trust can help your family avoid probate and access delays.

4️⃣ Safe deposit boxes can be locked up. Your family may need court authorization to access important documents.

5️⃣ Adding your kids to your accounts is risky. Joint ownership could expose your money to their creditors, lawsuits, or divorce. A properly structured trust can provide access and inheritance protections without making them joint owners.

6️⃣ Your power of attorney dies with you. It stops working immediately at death, even if it’s durable.

7️⃣ Your family can’t claim money they don’t know exists. Forgotten accounts and insurance policies can go unclaimed for years. #estateplanning #savings

🗂️ Comment THEFILE and and I’ll DM you the link.

56% of American adults have zero estate planning documents.

And a lot of people who do have a will never told anyone where it is.

Two hours. $9.

The most important + loving adulting task you’ll ever do.

💬 Comment THEFILE and I’ll send it to you now.
