For a decade, "stocks on the blockchain" was the punchline crypto kept telling itself. A nice idea for a whitepaper, a feature nobody actually used, a synthetic wrapper that tracked a price without giving you anything real.
Then 2026 happened.

In January, the New York Stock Exchange announced it was building a platform for on-chain settlement of tokenized securities — and by April, the SEC had approved the rule change, clearing the way for 24/7 trading of U.S. equities with near-instant settlement. Nasdaq partnered with Kraken. ICE took a stake in OKX. The DTCC — the boring backbone that clears basically every American trade — got cleared to launch its own tokenization pilot this July.
