A few days ago, I came across an excerpt from a very popular podcast by Mel Robbins. She had another famous podcast host, Rhonda Patrick, Ph.D., as a guest, and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Here’s the scene: Mel was talking about her habit of making a smoothie with bananas and blueberries, among other ingredients, in the morning, when the famous doctor told her that it wasn’t good for her and that she should replace de banana with an avocado. I was surprised and a little confused until I heard the explanations, which left me speechless. Why? Because I wasn’t expecting such nonsense.

The doctor’s argument was based on a study conducted on… 8, yes, you read that right, 8 people. The study aimed to examine the interaction between bananas - specifically polyphenol oxidase (PPO) - and the absorption of flavonoids found in blueberries.

It’s unbelievable how far things can go in the world of nutrition and advice, but what’s even sadder is that people are trying to monetize this at any cost, just to present everything in a dramatic way and create fear and uncertainty.

So I created the infographic below, and I’ll definitely be listening to those two podcasts a little less from now on.
