I am VERY guilty of looking at something and immediately thinking, “I can do that myself.” 🤣 And sometimes, doing it yourself really can save you a ton of money.
But I think we’ve gotten into a habit of comparing the professional quote to the cost of materials and calling the difference our “savings.”
We forget about the tools we had to buy, the three extra trips to the hardware store, the material we accidentally ruined, the supplies we’ll probably never use again, the hours spent watching tutorials, the entire Saturday the project took, and what it could cost if we get something wrong.
That doesn’t mean DIY isn’t worth it. Sometimes you’re learning a skill you’ll use for years. Sometimes you already own everything you need. Sometimes the savings are HUGE. And sometimes you genuinely love doing it, which has value too.

Retirement Savings Tip: Spend the least possible on needs.
One of the smartest ways to find more money for retirement savings is to take a closer look at what you're spending on everyday necessities.
When you need to replace something essential, spend as little as you can without sacrificing quality or safety.
A car is a perfect example. Buying more car than you need can put a serious strain on your finances. If it's time to replace yours, consider a reliable used car instead of a new one.
And don't stop there. Apply that same thinking to groceries, clothing, and other everyday expenses.
Remember, every dollar you don't spend unnecessarily is a dollar you can put toward your retirement savings and your future financial security.

If investing feels intimidating, you are definitely not alone. Investing has its own language, and when you don’t understand the terms, the accounts, or what you’re actually supposed to DO with your money, it can feel safer to do nothing at all.
But you don’t have to become an investing expert overnight. You can start by learning what investing actually is, how risk works, why your timeline matters, what diversification means and the difference between opening an investment account and actually investing the money inside it.
Your first step doesn’t even have to be investing a dollar. It can simply be learning enough that you feel more confident asking questions and making decisions about your own money.

One of the biggest mistakes I see during debt payoff is creating a budget that only works if nothing goes wrong.
Every extra dollar goes to debt, there’s no room for irregular expenses, and the monthly payment is based on the absolute most you can possibly squeeze out of your budget. Then real life happens, and the credit card comes back out.
The goal isn’t just to pay off debt as fast as possible. It’s to build a plan you can actually sustain long enough to get out of debt AND stay out of it.
Sometimes leaving room for savings, sinking funds, and real life isn’t slowing down your progress. It’s protecting it.
